To calculate gradient:
Length of Ramp / Rise = Gradient (approx)
Gradient Guide
1:4 (14 Degrees) Too steep for most applications
1:6 (10 Degrees) Acceptable in some cases for assisted access and powered wheelchairs
1:8 (8 Degrees) A good balance between gradient and space use, suited for events
1:10 (6 Degrees) Will provide independent access for most wheelchair users if space allows
1:12 (5 Degrees) Often required by authorities and social services
Note: Building regulations require a maximum gradient of 1:12 for installed ramps
